BLS Polymers' demand was so high that the other bars barely show. That gap is the story of last week.

1. EAAA India Alternatives: listed flat

The Edelweiss group's alternative-funds manager listed on Monday, 2 November:

  • NSE: ₹1,675.50, up 0.63% on the issue price of ₹1,665
  • BSE: ₹1,673, up 0.48%

The IPO was entirely an offer for sale, so the money went to the selling shareholder and EAAA raised none. Big investors drove the subscription. Retail demand was only about 1x, meaning ordinary investors bid for roughly the shares set aside for them and no more.

What it does: makes polymer compounds for cable insulation and pipe coating.

  • Subscribed 241.22 times overall, made up of QIBs 200x, non-institutional investors 559x and retail 128x
  • Listing: Tuesday, 3 November (NSE and BSE)
  • Price: ₹142–150, all new shares, ₹255 crore

With demand this high, most retail applicants will not get any shares, because allotment works like a lottery when an IPO is oversubscribed. You can check your allotment status on the registrar's website or on the BSE and NSE sites.

3. SFC Environmental Technologies

What it does: wastewater treatment, recycling and solid-waste technology.

  • Subscribed 9.47 times, made up of QIBs 18.8x, non-institutional investors 12.8x and retail 2.7x
  • Listing: Tuesday, 3 November
  • Size: ₹667.5 crore, of which ₹150 crore is new shares and ₹517.5 crore is shares sold by existing owners

4. M.K. Sons Fine Jewels

What it does: jewellery retailer in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

  • Subscribed 5.09 times, made up of non-institutional investors 14.1x, retail 3.1x and QIBs 1.8x
  • Listing: Wednesday, 4 November (tentative)
  • Anchor investors: ₹82.6 crore

5. Bombay Coated & Special Steels

What it does: processes steel coils for manufacturers.

  • Bidding closes today, 2 November, at 5 pm. By the last reading it was subscribed about 3.8 times, with retail at about 3x.
  • Allotment: 3 November · Listing: Thursday, 5 November
  • Size: ₹183 crore, all new shares, mostly to repay loans

SME IPOs this week

SME IPOs are small companies on the BSE SME and NSE Emerge platforms. The minimum investment is much bigger (often over ₹2 lakh) and the risk is higher. Their shares can also be hard to sell later.

Why is there a gap this week?

IPOs often come in waves. Companies line up their issues when markets are strong, and October was very busy, with the record Jio IPO and ten mainboard issues in two weeks. Cult.fit, Ratnadeep Retail and Neolite ZKW are among the names reported as coming soon, but none has announced dates yet. We will cover them in next Monday's calendar.

A quick IPO glossary

  • Subscription (e.g. 9.5x): how many times the shares on offer were bid for. A higher figure means more demand, but also less chance of getting shares.
  • QIB / NII / retail: big institutions, wealthy individuals, and ordinary investors (bids up to ₹2 lakh), respectively.
  • Allotment: the day the company decides who gets shares. If you don't get any, your blocked money is released.
  • Listing gain: the difference between the issue price and the first trading price.
