New York Knicks Defend Taylor Swift After Player Tyler Kolek Calls Her a “Performative” Fan

What the coverage says

During an NBA 2K stream and TikTok livestream on Thursday, November 5, New York Knicks guard Tyler Kolek named Taylor Swift the "fakest" celebrity fan, telling teammate Miles "Deuce" McBride that her appearances are "a little performative." While Fox News noted that the "Swifties friendship bracelet mob is already mobilizing," Yahoo Sports pointed out that Swift's connection to Madison Square Garden includes attending Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals in June and an earlier appearance in 2014, alongside childhood ties to the franchise. Yahoo Sports coverage also mentioned local angles, noting Rhode Island roots for Kolek, and included details of past incidents like police mistaking the player for a fake athlete during the team's championship parade.
