Kerala-born Nithya Raman becomes Los Angeles Mayor
What the coverage says
Indian-origin Democrat Nithya Raman has won the mayoral election in Los Angeles. While NDTV initially tracked her narrow lead in the race and Hindustan Times highlighted a congratulatory message from Shashi Tharoor celebrating her as a "daughter of Thiruvananthapuram," subsequent reporting confirmed her victory over incumbent Karen Bass. The Hindu and Times of India both reported that she assumed office to lead the second most populous city in the United States. Additionally, NDTV noted that her triumph occurred during a period of national Democratic divisions marked by insurgent left-wing challenges against establishment rivals.
